Coach Bob
Bob Pack is an intelligent and engaging professor. I walked out of my first Ways of Knowing class and my brain hurt. On the phone with my parents that night, I told them how Bob had said he was going to really make us think, and my brain definitely felt jumbled. With a mixture of humor and information, Bob makes every lecture interesting. He started our very first lecture by pointing out that humans have three main fears: death, not having a purpose in life, and public speaking. Many times a faux malicious smile will spread across his lips as he provokes our class to blasphemy. By throwing his hands in the air or slamming them onto the table and shouting “nothing” Bob keeps everyone in the class in rapt attention, no matter how late they were up the night before. Because his class is so engaging and his teaching style very entertaining, Bob’s Ways of Knowing class is now one of my favorites.
Bob Pack is an extremely intelligent man who appears to have a great interest in criticizing God in accordance with his atheistic principles. During the discussion of Genesis, Professor Pack made the assessment that God couldn’t be omniscient. He discussed that since scientists can’t measure quantum particles’ velocity and position at the same time, God could not be all-knowing. Bob also believes that Genesis provides the most examples of God’s lack of foresight as it takes Him several tries to find a correct partner for Adam. God also declares that the world is good, and in about four hours it all goes to hell. “Why would God create the snake if he knew it was going to tempt Adam and Eve?” Bob has asked repeatedly. Bob also believes that God is contradictory as he commends Job’s blasphemy right after rebuking him from the whirlwind for questioning Him. Bob also sees God as an overzealous punisher as losing eternal life and exile from paradise seem like a pretty stiff punishment for “only eating an apple.” The punishment of Job shows that God is unjust and the disease and natural disasters prove that God is not loving, and more than likely is Satan.
Bob also used Genesis to share his views on creation. For Bob, the only acceptable belief is that of the Big-Bang theory, in which before time even existed, the critical density of the world came to the exact level needed for creation and Poof! the universe came into being. He demonstrated his vast knowledge in the discussion of quantum physics, a hard concept for physicians and mathematicians.
As Bob believes God doesn’t exist, he also disagrees with the idea of a human soul. Because no one can prove the souls existence or reason its existence, the soul is therefore simply a made up idea. To Bob, humans are completely physical beings, like machines, with no non-material part.
Professor Pack is both well-educated and an articulate speaker. His depth of knowledge of both literature and science give his arguments great support. He also phrases each argument with the perfect amount of sarcasm to make any other idea appear foolish. For these reasons, it is easy to see why people find their ideas conforming to Bob’s.

Bridget,
Your assessment of Bob Pack is very well done. You did the assignment to the tee in my oppinion. You stated many of the things that Bob has said in class that you disagree with, without actually stating that. If someone didn't know you and they read it they wouldn't know what your oppinion of him was.
You might want to be careful in what you say Bob belives though. I think he definitly believes many of the things he tells us, he also says things to make us think and question our own beliefs.
It's clear that you respect and like Bob (despite your paper ... :) ) but you just have some basic disagreements with him. Maybe you should bring this up in class more, even though we've sort of moved on.
